What is a training belt and what is it for?
A training belt is an accessory designed to support the lower back and abdominal area during weightlifting exercises. Its main function is to stabilize the spine, reducing the risk of injury. By increasing intra-abdominal pressure, the belt helps support the lower back and reduces the tension on the spine when lifting heavy loads.
What are the benefits of using a training belt?
Training belts can be a beneficial addition to your workout routine if used correctly. A belt can allow you to lift more weight, as the increased intra-abdominal pressure provides a stable base from which the muscles of the legs and hips can generate force. A properly used training belt can help keep you healthy and improve your lifting performance.
What are the different types of belts Gymturones offers?
Classic Belt
The most standard and commonly used model for daily weightlifting, especially in hypertrophy or bodybuilding exercises. It offers excellent support for the lower back and has a variable width that allows for greater flexibility during exercises. Ideal for controlled lifts like squats and deadlifts, but also for exercises where additional support is needed, such as shoulder press.
Lever Belt
A belt with a front metal buckle that allows for much quicker and easier adjustment. Mainly used for powerlifting or Olympic lifting training, but can also be used without issue for daily bodybuilding exercises such as squats or deadlifts aimed at hypertrophy.
Zig Zag Single Prong Belt
This belt has the same width along its entire length, providing a uniform and stable fit. Thanks to its single prong, it allows for greater adjustment variety, making it ideal for both powerlifting and weightlifting or bodybuilding exercises. It is a hybrid between buckle belts and double prong belts, offering the best of both worlds for optimal performance.
What is the correct way to wear my training belt?
Position: This will depend on your personal preferences and the exercise you're doing, but as a general rule, you should place the belt around the narrowest part of your waist, just above the hip bone, ensuring it contacts your back, sides, and front of your torso.
Adjusting the belt: It should be tight enough to generate pressure when you breathe into your stomach and slightly push your abdominal muscles against it, but without restricting your breathing or movement. You should be able to fit your fingers between the belt and your abdomen. If you can’t fit your fingers, it’s too tight.
Quick Test: Before using the belt for heavy lifting, try breathing in your stomach, push your abdominal muscles slightly against the belt, and with a lighter weight, ensure you can perform the movement comfortably and effectively.
How do I choose the correct size for my belt?
As we explained in the previous answers, the belt should be placed around the narrowest part of your waist, just above the hip bone.
- Get a measuring tape and measure your waist.
- Don’t breathe deeply or suck in your stomach.
- Take that measurement and compare it with the size chart we provide on each belt product page.
- If you still have any doubts after following these steps, ask your mom, they know about these things.
